What Is Parque de la Paloma?
Parque de la Paloma is one of the largest urban green spaces in Benalmádena.
The park covers approximately 200,000 square metres and sits only around 100 metres from Playa de Santa Ana.
That location makes it unusual.
Within minutes, you can move from the busy Mediterranean coastline into gardens, ponds and large green spaces.
The park was designed by architect Eduardo Caballero and has become one of Benalmádena's best-known public spaces.
Walk Through the Park
There is no need for a complicated route.
Follow the paths and explore.
Green areas alternate with fountains, ponds and planted gardens.
Some sections feel open and spacious, while others offer more shade and vegetation.
Take your time.
The purpose of visiting Parque de la Paloma is not to complete a checklist of monuments.
It is somewhere to slow down.
Explore the Pond and Green Spaces
Water plays an important role in the park.
The large pond and surrounding greenery create one of its most recognisable areas.
Benches and paths make it easy to stop for a while.
This is particularly useful during a busy sightseeing day.
Instead of moving directly from one attraction to another, use Parque de la Paloma as a break.
Parque de la Paloma with Children
Families are one of the main reasons this park deserves a place in our Benalmádena Highlights series.
Children have space to move around.
The paths, water, vegetation and open surroundings create a completely different experience from visiting museums or monuments.
Bring some snacks or a picnic and allow enough time to enjoy the park without a strict schedule.
It can easily become one of the most relaxed parts of a family day in Benalmádena.
Visit as a Couple
Parque de la Paloma is not only for families.
It also works well for couples looking for somewhere quieter away from the busiest parts of the coastline.
Walk through the gardens, stop beside the water or combine the park with a late-afternoon walk towards the Mediterranean.
Because there is no entrance fee, there is no pressure to spend a certain amount of time here.
Walk to Castillo Bil-Bil
One of Benalmádena's most recognisable buildings is located close to the park.
Castillo Bil-Bil stands directly beside the Mediterranean and is known for its red façade and neo-Arab architecture.
The two highlights complement each other well.
One gives you green space.
The other gives you architecture and the coast.
Together they create an easy free itinerary.
Continue to Puerto Marina Benalmádena
If you want to walk further, continue along the coastline towards Puerto Marina Benalmádena.
There you can explore the harbour, boats and waterfront architecture before stopping for lunch or dinner.
A longer route could therefore be:
Parque de la Paloma → Castillo Bil-Bil → coastal promenade → Puerto Marina
Most of the sightseeing along this route is completely free.
Combine Coast and Mountains
Parque de la Paloma belongs to the coastal side of Benalmádena.
If you have another half day available, explore the opposite side of the destination.
Head uphill towards Benalmádena Pueblo.
From there, you can also visit Castillo de Colomares and the Benalmádena Stupa.
The contrast between the two areas is one of the reasons Benalmádena works so well for a longer stay.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Parque de la Paloma?
You can visit throughout the year.
Spring is particularly attractive when vegetation is at its best.
During summer, morning and late afternoon are generally the most comfortable times for walking.
The park also provides useful green space when you want a break from spending an entire day on the beach.
How Long Do You Need?
Allow around one to two hours.
Families may easily stay longer.
If you are mainly using the park as part of a coastal sightseeing route, an hour gives you enough time for a relaxed walk.
There is no reason to rush.
Is Parque de la Paloma Worth Visiting?
Yes, particularly if you want a break from beaches and busy tourist areas.
Parque de la Paloma gives Benalmádena something completely different.
A large green space.
Room to walk.
Places to sit.
And an easy environment for families.
All within walking distance of the Mediterranean.
And it is free.
